Ed-Co FBLA - History
Edgewood-Colesburg High School first chartered an FBLA Chapter in 1987.
Fall Leadership Conference
FBLA members participate in at least two conferences per year. State Fall
Leadership Conference (FLC) is held in Des Moines for two days in October. Students learn what professional business dress
is. They attend educational workshops, listen to speakers, network with members from other schools, and much more.
The conference always includes a 'fun night' for students to enjoy and ends with some sort of tour, usually
educational in nature in the Des Moines area.

Fall Leadership Conference 2009 On
September 27th and 28th, twenty-eight Ed-Co FBLA members enjoyed a trip to Des Moines for the annual
Fall Leadership Conference. At this conference, the group listened to a number of speakers. These speakers include: Kelly
Barnes or better known as “Sugar” the keynote speaker, Manpower employee Nick Reddin, and Team TRI member Bubbles.
In these sessions, members learned how to be safe in online networking, having a successful job interview, and they even had
a chance to practice teamwork while using their communication skills. Monday, the group was fortunate to tour West Glen Town
Center in southwest Des Moines. The general manager spoke about the urban development style of West Glen and how residents
could work, play, shop, and live in the development. Students saw first hand the apartments, raw commercial space, and heard
the huge project that is real estate development. "FLC was a great
way to start off another successful FBLA year," said local chapter president Derek Pritchard. The chapter would like
to personally thank Josette Paul for serving as parent chaperone, Evelyn Lister for volunteering to drive our bus, and our
administration for being so supportive of FBLA. -Reporter, Kayla Kluesner
State Leadership Conference
State Leadership Conference is held in Cedar Rapids for 2 1/2 days in April. Students spend many hours ahead of the conference
preparing for the competitive business events that they will compete in. Students take written exams, give speeches, orally
spell, or display their computer skills in an attempt to place in the top two in each event.
Students that place high enough in an event at the state level have the chance to qualify for the National Leadership
Conference held in the summer in alternating locations to showcase their skills against students from across the nation.
